B&W CM1 Bookshelf speakers

Compact CM1 is junior in its series. Two-way monitors are designed for work in small rooms, but, according to the developers, able to surprise by large scale of sound. Low-frequency part is presentated here by the 130-mm branded head with woven diffuser made of yellow kevlar, in the center of which a phase-leveling cup is mounted. The upper range is sounded by a 25-mm aluminum tweeter, equipped with a special loading pipe (the famous Nautilus technology). To reduce resonances the tweeter has fullmetal flange, which is also a stylish decor item.

The crossover is extremely simple here (of the first order), so minimum elements, able to affect sound quality, were used in the sceme.

Describing the character of sound, at first I should mention a full order with both macro- and micro-dynamics. B&W CM1 monitors play low frequencies confidently and strongly, a bit losing an ideal control near the lower border of operating range.

Tonal balance is as following: the edges of the range are slightly raised, there is some irregularity at the junction of the bands. Despite of this, instrumental timbres are played recognizably, relaxed and many details are heard in voices. However, sometimes there are minor side-tones, a bit reducing the transparency of this frequency spectrum. Scene is extremely three-dimensional; images are properly distributed aross the width of the space. At correct positioning of the systems according to a listener, you can get almost touchable holography.
